Hello, the tour on February 5, 2026, at 12 p.m. was very good. However, the meeting place with the guide, a very unpleasant woman who didn't even introduce herself—I don't know her first name—made no effort to help if you didn't understand English. This is the first time I've ever seen a guide who has no patience with tourists. She needs to change jobs.

We purchased the combo ticket which included walking through the basilica, visiting the treasury, and going to the lookout to see the panaramic view of Budapest. The basilica itself is spectacular and learning the story of its creation was interesting. There is so much detail put into the intricate artwork and its structure. The treasury itself was a delight to walk throigh, and the panaramic view was a perfect way to end the tour. Absolutely worth it!

A perfect experience to enjoy unique landscapes from Budapest! The tour at night gives you espectacular views of the bridges and the landmarks that will last forever with you. All the staff super nice and the boats are very comfortable and modern. They have an audio guide included that explains every landmark as the boat passes by them. A plus in the audio guide is the +30 languages that they have. Without a doubt this is a very nice experience to enjoy Budapest!

Very enjoyable tour. Fanni, our guide, was very knowledgeable and clearly had a passion for both the history and art of the Basilica. She taught us about all the symbolic meanings within both the architecture and art in great detail which I really appreciateed. Was truly a worthwhile experience that I would recommend to everyone.

St. Stephen’s Basilica | Budapest’s largest church

St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest, also known as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, is the city’s largest church and one of its most awe-inspiring landmarks. Located in the heart of the city, on the Pest side of the river, this neoclassical masterpiece is dedicated to the first king of Hungary, St. Stephen, who was instrumental in establishing Christianity in the kingdom in the 11th century. Whether you’re attending a concert at St. Stephen’s Basilica or simply exploring the rich history of the building, it’s a must-see on any Budapest itinerary.

Rich and ornate interiors

While St. Stephen’s Basilica’s neoclassical façade is a marvel of architecture, its opulent interiors are equally spectacular. Inside, you’ll find exquisitely painted and gilded ceilings, frescoes rich in detail, intricate mosaics, ornate chapels, and stained glass windows, making it one of Budapest’s most impressive religious buildings.

Views from the panoramic terrace

Climb up the stairs or take an elevator up to the church’s panoramic terrace, where you’ll be rewarded with 360° views of Budapest, including iconic landmarks like the Parliament building, Chain Bridge, Buda Castle, and the Danube River. It’s the perfect spot for an Instagram-worthy photograph and to appreciate the beauty of the city from above.

Rare sacred artifacts

The church houses a collection of Hungary’s most sacred relics, including the mummified right hand of St. Stephen, which is its most important religious artifact. Its treasury also holds artworks and other ecclesiastical objects like chalices, censers, and church vestments, offering a glimpse into Hungary’s rich religious and cultural heritage.

Classical music concerts

With its excellent acoustics and grand interiors, St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of the city’s most iconic classical music concert venues. It often hosts Hungary’s top musicians performing classical masterpieces by composers like Mozart, Vivaldi, Verdi, and Bach. Attending a concert in this historical setting is an unforgettable experience.

Highlights of St. Stephen’s Basilica

Dome

The 96-meter-high dome of St. Stephen’s Basilica is not just an architectural feat but also a vantage point for stunning views of the city. On the inside, you can marvel at the gilded frescoes that cover its ceiling, while its terrace offers breathtaking views of Budapest.

Large pipe organ

The organ in St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of the largest in Europe, with more than 6,500 pipes. With its impressive sound, it is the centerpiece during religious services and classical organ concerts that are often hosted at the church.

St. Stephen’s mummified hand

The mummified right hand of St. Stephen is the basilica’s most significant artifact and is believed to have healing powers. It is displayed in a glass reliquary and kept in the Holy Right Hand Chapel, which is located near the main altar and decorated in gold and silver.
